We believe a strong partnership between the home, kindergarten and local community fosters and enriches learning. We value input from family and the children into the curriculum and planning, as well as in the assessment of learning. We see the children, their family and staff as a community of learners all working together.
Our Early Childhood Educators use a range of assessments, for building up a picture of each child’s learning, to understand what children know and can do. We record the information in many ways such as observations, learning stories, reflections, documentation, digital documentation, learning journals and portfolios. This information is then used to make decisions and build on each individual child’s strengths, interests and knowledge.
Our modern facilities and our outdoor garden space provide for an ever changing learning environment. Most importantly we aim to stimulate your child’s creativity and imagination, to build on their natural curiosity and develop a lifelong love of learning.
The Oakleigh Primary School Kindergarten is situated in a separate custom-designed building adjoining the school. We are an integral part of the school community nurtured through sharing school staff and facilities. We participate in specialist classes including art, library, music/drama and physical education. We borrow from the school library on a regular basis. One of the most important initiatives is the buddy system where kindergarten children are teamed up with children in grades four and five. These relationships continue to help create a seamless transition to the school in Year Prep.
