Library

Our Library offers a bright and spacious learning environment for our students and staff.   We enjoy an impressive collection of high quality picture story books, easy fiction and older children’s fiction as well as an up to date range of colourful, high interest non-fiction titles.   This dynamic collection is improving constantly as new books are added and out of date material is weeded out.
Every student at Oakleigh Primary School and Kindergarten has a weekly timetabled library session.  The aim of the library program is to encourage a love of books, reading and learning at the same time as acquiring safe and authoritative research skills, appropriate book choice and an understanding of the Dewey Decimal System.
Our Library Technician works four days a week and as well as their weekly lesson, students are free to use the library on four lunchtimes a week for quiet reading and browsing.

Borrowing:
Kindergarten and Prep – one book for one week.
Students in Years 1 and 2 – two books for two weeks.
Students in Years 3-6 – three books for two weeks.

All students are expected to take good care of the books when they are at home and to adhere to the due date.  Reminders are sent out for overdue books.  Borrowing restrictions may apply if books are constantly overdue or damaged.
