Three year old FUNDED kindergarten

Through a play based curriculum we promote children’s holistic development in relationship with their peers and with us as educators. Experiences are planned that:

Support children to feel secure and happy in the kindergarten environment and to establish warm and trusting relationships with educators and their peers.

Support children’s emerging independence in self-care and ability to ask for help

Promote children’s fine and gross motor skills which are of key importance in their learning

Support children to develop dispositions for learning such as curiosity, persistence, independence and resilience.

Reflect their understandings of the world and introduce new concepts to build on them.

Support children’s social and emotional learning and wellbeing.

Build early literacy and numeracy understandings.

Build on children’s interests and strengths.

Provide opportunities for children to develop effective communication with others which supports all areas of their learning.

Help us to authentically assess children’s learning and plan for each child’s development.

Three year old kindergarten is a fun and engaging place to be for children and a fantastic opportunity to build relationships in our community that may well last until grade 6 or beyond!

Building on all of this important learning that has occurred in three year kinder and In this important year before school our relationship with the school becomes more formalised with weekly sessions at the school library where children can borrow a book each week, enjoy shared reading as a class and play in the school playground on the way back to kinder. We use the school gym in terms one and two for weekly PMP sessions which promotes children’s gross and fine motor skills, cognitive function and physical health and wellbeing.

Our relationship with the prep team is important in supporting children’s successful transition to school, throughout the year we have discussions with prep teachers in how we can work together to ensure that children begin school with all of the support and skills that they need. Our transition to school program is particularly effective and has evolved over time to reflect our place in the school community.

Each term children’s literacy, numeracy and social learning are observed and assessed in enjoyable, meaningful and authentic ways. Children’s growth is celebrated and this data is used to make curriculum decisions which will enhance children’s learning and development over the year.
